Why nominated: Dave Oates is the sort of principal who dedicates his heart and soul to his school. There is no question from anyone in the Central community that he cares deeply for our Crusaders. For the last several years he has led Central to continued academic excellence but has also demonstrated that he is a leader who is willing to do whatever it takes for success; he is willing to step into the classroom to help or fill in when necessary. After school and on the weekends he attends as many school events as possible to show his support. He does landscape work to keep the campus beautiful; he gives up his free time to paint hallways and classrooms. He is dedicated day and night to helping Central Catholic maintain their tradition of excellence.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your position?
A: We have fantastic students, supportive parents, and outstanding staff members that I get to work with every day that are all committed to the mission of Central Catholic.
Q: What is the most challenging?
A: I think just about every private school administrator would say that finding funding to implement new programs and technology, as well as making facility improvements, is a constant challenge.
Q: If you weren’t doing this, you’d be ... ?
A: A college golf coach.
Q: Tell us something about the students you deal with most people don’t know or appreciate.
A: Our students are very committed to helping others throughout the community. Last year, our 325 students completed over 9,000 service hours.
Q: How do you unwind after a long day at work?
A: I enjoy playing golf and working in the yard.

A: I majored in mechanical engineering before changing my major to education.
Q: What is the one responsibility about your position you didn’t know existed before taking it?
A: The amount of time that is spent dealing with non-educational issues of the school.
